Setting the Green Standard
Humans and cannabis have been co-evolving for thousands of years, but the medicinal applications of cannabis are just now being exposed, and the research is still in its infancy. The cannabis industry has now transitioned from a clandestine position to an almost fully legalized industry that is exponentially booming throughout the world. With the federal prohibition of cannabis coming to an end, more and more people are adopting cannabis products in new demographics, and the nation is turning green. California and many other legal states have mandated testing requirements that are imperative to ensure the safety of cannabis consumers.
As the medicinal applications of cannabis are being discovered and evolving, the regulations and quality control procedures are magnified. Untested and unregulated cannabis products have the potential to be very dangerous, with heavy metals or bacterial contamination, for example, causing side effects ranging from mild illness to death. This white paper addresses the mandatory testing requirements in California and provides an overview of the regulatory and scientific requirements implemented by the state.
